Nutria Traps
Traps can be found online, or locally. I recommend about any trap sized at least 10x10x30 this is a typical raccoon size and can be found at our local hardware bigbox stores - even a cheap trap is good but you’ll need to probably spend at least 60 bucks!
Nutria Baits
Bait for nutria is the sweet potato. Period.
Nutria Repellant's
There is no repellant that I know of.
Pond and lake problems related to nutria
Ponds can be affected in numerous ways, from bank stability to nutrients and contamination by nutria fecal matter. We are working on a separate web page to show and describe specific nutria related pond issues. Call us to discuss and set up an evaluation.
Nutria Droppings
Nutria Droppings are cylindrical and sometimes have a very “lined” appearance. I would say on average they are about 1.25 inches in length.
Grumpy Nutria
Nutria appear grumpy to me - if you have a picture of a very happy nutria send it to me! I would love to catch a glimpse of one that seems to be content!
Nutria Cages
I like to cage trap nutria - I wonder what took me so long to like it! Some folks have an issue with it but I like it - my recommendation is in direct relation to “traps”
Their teeth are orange due to the iron in their diet staining their teeth.
